Then, preparation is key!
The sub-base is the most important part of any driveway construction. It may be time consuming for our team to install but we know after years in the industry that it is absolutely crucial to have excellent foundations to prevent problems in the future such as subsidence.
The sub-base is so important because it needs to withstand the weight of your vehicles for many years to come so getting it right is a crucial part to any driveway. The depth of the sub base is key, most residential driveways require a depth of 150mm to be able to take cars.
The most common sub-base is made of DT Type 1 (MOT) which consists of crushed rock graded from 40mm down to dust. The varying sizes of rocks enables the surface to be permeable to water once interlocked.
DT Type 3 product is very similar to DT Type 1 but even more permeable to water. This product complies with Sustainable Urban Drainage Scheme (SUDS) which is becoming the norm in the UK due to flooding issues being more prevalent.
And talking of drainage, our experienced team at Stonepave Drives and Patios Ltd can help you with all of your drainage enquiries and questions. Insufficient drainage or drainage which is not set up properly for a driveway to be built can result in blocks becoming eroded due to the rainwater not being able to escape. Our team can help and advise you whether extra drainage is needed for your plot.
Once the sub-base is properly laid and the drainage has been approved, our customers have many material options to choose from:
